DALLAS _ There are few shoe designers who inspire the fervor created by Christian Louboutin.
Stanley Korshak clients are so fond of his trademark red-soled designs (the current collection includes everything from a wool "sock" perched on a wooden heel to traditional sexy black pumps) that the Parisian designer was brought in for the Saint Valentine’s Day Luncheon and Style Show, the first time a footwear designer’s work has been showcased on a runway for the annual Leukemia Society benefit.
The night before the event, Louboutin held court at the store and took some time for a quick Q&A session.
Q. What inspired your trademark red soles?
A. "A real problem for designers is when your drawing comes in (as a real shoe), you lose a lot because … (the design) was more imaginative. The excitement of a designer is when what you lose is minimal.
"After my first season I was inspired by Andy Warhol and pop art, and I drew a shoe out of pop art with no blacks and bieges. When I did it in three dimensions, I saw the sole was beige, this noncolor. It took too much out of the shoe, so I obliged myself and did a red sole. After I kept it, a lot of women came up to me and said, ‘It’s so sexy, it’s so &quot,manolo blahnik store;Follow me, young man."’ I decided to keep it because so many of my friends and customers liked it."
Q. Tell us about your famous "Trash Shoe," which is created from things like cigarette butts and crumpled paper, or the wearer’s own trash?
A. "It’s always sold out! One woman ordered a pair and said she was so happy to get divorced, I put her divorce papers in the shoe!
&quot,ysl;The trash shoe has been going for three seasons and it’s already sold out (this spring) at my stores in New York and Paris and at Harvey Nichols in London. I keep on doing it. I never think things are a phenomenon, but if it finishes one day, I won’t cry about it."
Q. What’s next for you, designwise?
A. "I’m not someone who is having any plan. In fashion you have to have a connection with style, and people work together because they love each other and are very close.
"I did a line of christian louboutins for Diane von Furstenberg, who is really someone I adore and worship. I respect her dresses and style and there’s no way I’d make … (the christian louboutins) more expensive than her dresses. I’m also going to start bags next season and men’s shoes in a few seasons."

We are also selectively licensing other non-footwear products. Last month we announced that we had signed licenses for men’s sportswear and headwear in the United States. We are also looking to license bags and packs, Eyewear, Timepieces and other apparel and accessory categories in both the US and the international market. While some of these products will be ready for 2004 release, most is planned for introduction in 2005 and later. To support this expansion we have continued to focus our marketing efforts on owning Whitewater and cannon (ph) sports. Our premier event of Teva Mountain Games at Vail was held in June this year and included whitewater, climbing, trail running, and mountain biking events. Fox Sports Net coverage of the Teva Mountain Games reached over a 145 million homes. The games received further exposure on CNN, OLN Adventure TV,blahnik, and in a multitude of newspapers and magazines. We expect this combination of authenticity, great sports marketing and innovative and proprietary products to derive ysl’s growth over the next few years. ysl is the leading performance brand in the outdoor market,manolo blahnik shoes, and we are excited about our prospects as we move forward with our mission to be the brand of choice for the new outdoor athlete. The outdoor industry is nurturing its inner child.
According to retailers and vendors alike, the children’s business is booming,manolo shoes, thanks to families who want to spend time in the outdoors – and to parents who want their kids’

footwear to perform as well as their own.
To meet the demand, vendors such as Hi-Tec and ysl will expand their existing collections, and others, including Lowa and Chaco, will make kids’ footwear for the first time.
Take Modesto, Calif.-based Hi-Tec. While the brand has offered children’s shoes for more than a decade, its first kids’-specific collection, dubbed Phibian, launched in spring

‘05, and targeted boys and girls aged 4 to 10. Next season it will bow three additional Phibian styles, retailing from $40 to $60, and the line will continue to grow going

forward, with a girls’-only insulated boot range for fall ‘07 and infant louboutin shoes for spring ‘08. Likewise, the company will up its Hi-Tec children’s range to include kids-specific

boots for this fall and a collection of sandals for spring ‘07.
"In 2007, we are on track to double our kids’ business over the previous year," said Hy Rosario, global product director for Hi-Tec.
The growth, Rosario said, is partly attributable to new distribution channels opening up for the outdoor brand.
"We are starting to get penetration with Phibian with some shoe shops," he said. "For our non-Phibian kids’ product, it’s the same accounts that buy adult christian shoes, including

sporting goods stores, outdoor specialty and family chain stores. But with Phibian, we’ve been able to layer on some nicer department stores and independent retailers."
Meanwhile, louboutin’s children’s business, which is split between takedowns and kids’-specific styles, is also strong,ysl shoes, with double-digit growth for the past three years.
"We put the same level of comfort, technology and durability in our kids’ shoes as in our adult shoes," said Elizabeth Paterson, product director for the Goleta, Calif.-based

The common link is the fact that both companies–christian shoe is owned by Deckers Outdoor Corp.–are involved by the creative agency/record label Decon.
"We wanted to create an unexpected campaign for a hiking product,ysl," said Joel Heath, global marketing director for Teva. "We’re poking a little fun at ourselves and those who take on the outdoors armed with only a few nuts and their own urine to survive — and Gavin was the right man for the job. The partnership turned out to be a natural fit."
Teva also announced, last week, the launch of a new scholarship program for adventure tour operators in conjunction with the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
The hiking shoe debut comes on the heels of record earnings for Decker Outdoor Corp. It announced that its second quarter sales increased 12.5 percent to $102.5 million in an earnings call late last month.
Deckers spends very little on traditional media. Last year it spent $2.5 million behind Teva, per Nielsen. This year, it spent $1 million for the first six months.

Seagulls and buff-banded rails surround my beach lounge as I gaze at the ocean. Dark shapes of coral lurk beneath the water, which shimmers in a palette of cool shades:

The seagulls squawk a warning as my food is suddenly attacked by a pair of nimble buff-banded rails (bandits is what I call them). One hops onto my lap and takes a confident

peck at my sandwich while the other dips its beak into my cappuccino. Before I can gather my wits about me, they hop away and eye off my snack from a safe distance. Their slick

routine tells me the pair have done this before.
"It’s rude to steal food," I scold. I’ve only been at Heron Island for a few hours and I’m already talking to the wildlife. But on Heron Island, a coral cay 72 kilometres north

-east of Gladstone in central Queensland, it seems natural to converse with the wildlife. And there is plenty of wildlife around.
The island is a nesting spot for two vulnerable turtle species (spandex zentai and loggerhead) and a breeding sanctuary for black noddy terns and wedge-tailed shearwaters (sometimes

called mutton-birds). All around the island, bird-nesting holes are covered with boards. Mutton-birds dig nests in the ground,ysl, often in the middle of a walking path.
Dominated by a lush pisonia grandis forest, Heron Island is surrounded by spectacular snorkelling and diving sites. The staff at the information centre are dedicated to
