But first, my New Year’s Eve. I was planning on spending it in some exotic location but my plans fell through, so I ended up stranded in London, with the Met Bar at the Metropolitan Hotel my only source of consolation.
For their celebrations (guests included Melinda Messenger, the usual sprinkling of pop stars and various models), the ground floor of the hotel was transformed from its usual minimalist, pure white interior into a seedy nightclub in the Far East with red PVC couches, regal red carpet and Chinese paper lanterns – just the right atmosphere for New Year’s Eve.
I arrived decked out in my new black Gucci dress with cut-out hole and ‘G’ belt. But my choice of footwear was most inappropriate.
My Diego Dolcini christian louboutin (available at cult fashion shop Pellicano) proved to be a disaster. The ankle strap is fastened with a miniature padlock, which can be unlocked only with a special key that I keep in a hiding place at home. Having been on my feet dancing for most of the evening, and unable to slip my christian louboutin shoes off quietly under the table, I had to suffer for seven hours.
Furthermore, the christian shoes have metal heels which screw on – and invariably off. In the midst of one of my dance routines, one heel flew off and landed somewhere in the middle of the dance floor.
My New Year’s resolution is to make wiser choices when it comes to new purchases, which leads me on to what it was that got me out of bed.
With the new spring/summer collections due for delivery (as soon as the dreaded sales finish – I’m sick of all those old clothes), it dawned on me that I hadn’t put my name down on any waiting lists. So, wrapped up in my Missoni scarf and gloves, I headed over to my favourite haunts for some serious business.
Starting with the movie stars’ much-loved Dolce & Gabbana, I’m hopefully first on the list for their stunning lilac chiffon dress embellished with dainty butterflies.
While flicking through their picture book, I also found some animal-print sandals I simply have to have.
Next stop was Prada, where I spotted the most glorious Perspex-heeled mules, followed by a trip to louboutin shoes, where I was unable to eliminate anything from my lengthy order list.
Any one of their sumptuous evening gowns will do!
