AUSTRALIA’S swimmers will be stalking the Barcelona Olympic pool for gold medals wearing costume spiderman .
The Aussie Cossie has had a facelift, using revolutionary new materials and designs to give our swimmers biomechanically faster suits with ultimate comfort.
The unique new fabric, S2000,Spiderman Costumes, developed by Speedo, is a combination of polyurethane and polyester, creating a water resistant property similar to that of ducks’ feathers.
The costume spiderman design, modelled above by Olympic swimmer Leigh Habler, is the most radical in yearsand features a high neck and a back zip.
Victoria’s Nicole Stevenson, who will represent Australia in the 100m and 200m backstroke,zentai suit, the 200m freestyle, and 4×100m medley relay at the Games, helped Speedo’s designers by testing the suit out in training.
"It feels really weird, it is so different to have a high neck, and to be zipped into the suit," Stevenson said.
"It is a bit like a wet-suit cut, the way the arm holes are big and the neck high, and the material feels rubbery and buoyant." Finding the new fabric and design to have a positive affect on swimmers’ performances, the Australia’s head coach Don Talbot approved the production of suits for the Olympic team.
The team will wear the S2000 swimsuit for the first time at the Speedo Grand Prix final at the Warringah Aquatic Centre this weekend.
But Australia may not be the only nation sporting the catsuit.
European and American Olympic swimmers have been reported to be clocking personal best times wearing the new swimsuits, and will be wearing them at the Games.

"This is your chance to wear one of those Liz Hurley numbers,&quot,zentai suit; says an envious friend. Forget it! Safety pins won’t be up George Clooney’s street; besides, I don’t have those sort of breasts.
A real fashion dilemma kicks in. I decide that I have really got to go for it, you know, get in to the caped crusader spirit of things. So, the question is should I do a Poisoned Ivy or a Batgirl look?
I head to Soho for inspiration. First stop is Slinky’s in Walkers Court, next door to the Raymond Revue Bar, in the heart of rubber-land. "Do you have anything Batgirl-ish?" I ask a large lady behind the counter (pink mohican, lots of leather and pierced eyelids),Spiderman Costumes, who shows me her range of PVC. I decide to try on a pounds 75 catsuit.
The catsuit goes on easily enough. . . Hold on, I didn’t realise there was a zip down there, too. Looks fabulous though; very Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. There’s something to be said for shiny PVC – it positively lights up the complexion. Unfortunately, I encounter a rather large problem in that I can’t actually move in it, let alone sit down for the duration of a film. I shuffle out of the changing room in the inflexible zentai and ask to try on some rubber instead.
A svelte black rubber dress (pounds 85 – these "fabrics" don’t come cheap) makes embarrassing squelching and slapping noises as I drag it over my body. What a fit! Forget Lycra, there’s nothing like rubber to hold and lift. What’s more, I am very surprised that said dress has all the elements of this season’s trends; plunge neckline, back split (albeit far higher than was shown on the catwalk) and cut just below the knee. But will George Clooney get these subtle fashion nuances? I think not. Trouble is, I am totally stuck in an elephant-miming position with the dress caught under my arms, which are thrown in front of my body like a trunk. I daren’t ask for help from the big lady with pierced eyelids or the next-door changing room, which is giving off bizarre noises (it sounds like outfits are being tried on that involve chains). Eventually, I wriggle out of the rubber and the buying of very expensive Gotham-esque items.

KYLIE MINOGUE staged her first concert since beating breast cancer yesterday and it was as if she had never been away.
The singer delighted her fans in a series of astonishing shiny metallic and gyrated energetically with scantilyclad male dancers as she performed her hits.
A sell-out crowd of 10,000 cheered as she took to the stage in Sydney for the first night of her Showgirl Homecoming tour.
It was hard to believe that it was only 18 months ago that she was diagnosed with the disease. Since then she has had a lump removed and endured chemotherapy that made her hair fall out and left her already tiny frame looking gaunt.
Now she is well again and she proved it in style,Spiderman Costumes, showing off eight outrageous outfits from designers including Dolce &amp,zentai suit; Gabbana, Pucci and Karl Lagerfeld.
Kylie, 38, kicked off the concert in a showgirl costume by John Galliano, with a pink plumed headdress and jewelled bodice with huge train made from ostrich feathers imported from Paris.
Another outfit featured a black PVC minidress with laced knee-high boots and giant cockatoo’s plumed headdress.
The Australian star also appeared in a head-to-toe leopard print catsuit complete with animal ears on her head.
A further costume change found her in a sequined miniskirt and a top streaming golden ribbons, with a punk-like peroxide wig over the blonde hair that has grown back since the chemotherapy.
Later in the show she wore a Pucci silver spider costume with matching silver headdress and a multicoloured swirled cape.
She also appeared in two full-length golden gowns and a sequined jacket teamed with a pair of printed culottes that bore a picture of Dame Edna Everage.
Kylie had to cancel her Showgirl tour when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year but promised fans she would return once she was better.
Speaking before yesterday’s show, she said: ‘Just to be here and have the opportunity to do it, I feel quite proud of that.
I’m thrilled to be back. I’ve been looking forward to it for such a long time.’ Her performance yesterday was the first of 20 concerts in Australia before a series of dates in Britain in January.

FETISHIST clothing, once the preserve of the sex shop, is moving into the fashion mainstream. The boom in bondage clothing has been inspired by designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Pam Hogg, who experimented with rubber, leather, PVC and shiny Lycra in the Eighties.
Now their ideas are being widely copied by mass-market manufacturers, boosted by the film Batman Returns, in which Michelle Pfeiffer plays Catwoman dressed in a skintight black catsuit.
In the United States, orders for spiderman costumes were 60 per cent up on 1991, according to Women’s Wear Daily, the American clothing trade newspaper. British manufacturers reported a similar increase following the UK release of the film.
High street retailers are stocking up for autumn on ”wet-look” costume spiderman and the sort of clothing that used to be sold through mail-order catalogues.
Miss Selfridge, a 95-branch high street chain targeting 15- to 25-year-olds, is selling black PVC and fishnet tops, and cycling shorts with suspender belts. Top Shop, which sells to much the same age group, is bringing in PVC skirts and a variety of fishnet, mesh and satin bodysuits.
At the Pineapple shop in Covent Garden, Sarah Callard, 23, was squeezing into a shiny sequinned print costume spiderman ,zentai suit, price pounds 89.95. ”I like it. It feels corseted and strapped in, like a second skin,” she said.
In the Sixties, the fetishist’s wardrobe inspired Diana Rigg’s costume in The Avengers; in the Seventies, Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood borrowed elements of bondage clothing to create the punk look. This month, the fashion market is bracing itself for an explosion in demand for fetishist clothing that will make the ”kinky” gear of earlier decades seem tame.

Many women no longer associate fetishist fabrics such as rubber and stretch PVC with sexual deviancy. Worn in the right way and with the right attitude, they take on a bold new identity. Ms Callard described the new appropriation of rubber and PVC as an ”expression of women’s independence”.
Designers also find the fabrics more practical because of advances in technology. In Paris, Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler use Lycra-backed polyurethane. High street clothing companies are using cotton-backed polyurethane. Ms Olley said: ”The new fabrics are a quantum leap in fit and performance.”
But there is a cloud on the horizon for real fetishists. Specialist retailers are worried that the fabrics that turn on their customers might not have the same appeal if everyone else starts wearing them.

The natural reaction of most husbands, if lucky enough to be married to Ola, would surely be to ask her to cover up her assets.
But now she reveals it was actually her husband and Strictly Come Dancing co-star James Jordan who designed the catsuit – and talked her into wearing it.
She says: "Most of my more outrageous outfits are designed by James. I’m quite shy but he said ‘go on, you’ll look great’."
James says: "I like a bit of filth! My designs are men’s fantasies. I tried to buy the spider costume so she could wear it round the house but they wouldn’t let me.
"I like her to look sexy and sweet rather than sexy and slutty. As long as it’s classy, with no boobs hanging out.
"I don’t mind when men fancy Ola because I know I’m the one going home with her.
"The first year we did Strictly, I found it very difficult that Ola was spending so much time with another man when I wasn’t there. But a relationship is based on trust and I don’t get jealous any more."
Strictly fever is already building for the new series,zentai suit, which kicks off next month. Ola is teamed with BBC Breakfast presenter Chris Hollins while James has Footballers’ Wives actress Zoe Lucker.
Ola says: "I haven’t been jealous of any of James’s partners because I know what type he likes. If any of them were like that, it might be a different matter."
James confirms: "Zoe is lovely and beautiful with a nice body and personality, but she’s not really my type."

THE RELEASE on Friday of Charlie’s Angels at a cinema near you threatens to have the nation reaching for lip gloss, hairspray and, wait for it, a zentai . Ouch. Shiny lips and flicky hair is one thing, but the unforgiving,Spiderman Costumes, all-in-one number will not have most of us rushing out to buy one.
OK, Charlie’s chicks – Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore) and Alex (Lucy Liu) – look pretty hot in their one-piece suits, but bear in mind that they probably had a nutritionist/fitness adviser to keep them trim, not forgetting calorie-controlled lunch boxes (Hollywood’s latest answer to healthy eating on location).
And they are actresses, not mere mortals with curves and cellulite and potential confidence crises. If you are blessed with long legs, a pert bottom,zentai suit, no hips and a nipped-in waist, then by all means go for it as shown by Victoria Beckham (black zip-up leather reminiscent of Girl on a Motorcycle), Mel B (black strapless all-in-one) and actresses Rosanna Arquette and Carmen Electra (in matching spray-on denim affairs), Liv Tyler (asymmetrical christian jumpsuit) and X-Men’s star Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (metallic blue leather). The rest of us can duck out of this look altogether.
But even if you are thinking of wearing one, you might find them in short supply (and if you are tempted, for heaven’s sake, stick to black). Alexander McQueen’s slashed, low-belted, black ribbon-wool design (he does his own take on the boiler-suit) has already been seen out and about doing the rounds. More than 50 per cent of Armani’s black velvet halterneck fitted costume spiderman (also available in plum) have left the shop floor and his grosgrain version has sold out. Michael Kors has gold sequined turtleneck, long-sleeved, loose-fit jumpsuits, but they are not for the fainthearted. There is no cowering in the corner in one of these. If you can, wait until February, when Versace will introduce backless halterneck all-in-ones in black, shocking pink, aqua and print, and another style with a singlet top and chain hip belt
Even the high street is selling out fast as the one "Christmas wow piece" is snapped up by the bold and the brave. You might have to break into a run if you want to nab Warehouse’s plunge-V, black satin catsuit with a gold sequin starburst round the neck, but before you put on your trainers, note that satin is the least forgiving fabric.
On the other hand, River Island offers black (the high-street retailers know the shade that sells) crepe-jersey spider costumes in two styles with diamante belts either at the waist or under the bust. If you like the sound of Rosanna Arquette and Carmen Electra’s denim ensemble (looks like they are wearing tight indigo jeans and fitted shirt), then get thee to Oasis. If it has sold out, check out the black sassy numbers, complete with gold belts.
But be warned; while you might wow the boys (you are fully clothed, yet showing off every outline of your body), you will not score Brownie points in the ladies’. Anyone who has worn a skisuit will know what I am talking about – a great deal of huffing and puffing in a small cubicle as you wrestle yourself in and out of the wretched zips.

EJECTED Andrew Castle apologised to the men of Britain for getting sexy partner Ola Jordan kicked out of Strictly Come Dancing.
The GMTV presenter – who got booted off last night’s BBC One show – told The Sun he felt guilty for ending the stunning 26-year-old’s weekly stint on telly. But in a glimmer of hope for male viewers, he did say the Polish sexpot may give her plunging PVC catsuit another airing.
The pair became the seventh celebrity couple to go because of his lacklustre performance of the samba. Judge Len Goodman said: "Instead of Andrew Castle you’ve got to be more like a bouncy castle.&quot,Spiderman Costumes; And
the other judges also berated the former tennis star’s performance which cost the pair the dance-off to singer Heather Small and Brian Fortuna. But the happily-married TV host, who said he and wife Sophia would love to take up dancing, said he barely noticed what the blonde bombshell was wearing during the dance because he was so nervous. Andrew said: "I think I was the only man in Britain who didn’t."
Andrew will also be returning to Strictly next week as he wants to see Beyonce in a guest spot on the Sunday results show. He said the Destiny’s Child singer charmed him when he interviewed her on the GMTV sofa.
